John Maxwell - Managing Director - Virgin Money South Africa    

John Maxwell, managing director of Virgin Money South Africa, is a seasoned financial services player having worked in South African financial services for the majority of his career. After obtaining his CA(SA) in the late 80’s, John joined  NBS Bank Limited in 1990 where he was based for seven years fulfilling a multitude of roles and responsibilities. In 1995, John was appointed as a director of NBS Bank Limited.

Subsequent to the merger with BoE Group, John was appointed to the position of managing director of BoE Bank Limited.   John was then promoted to chief operating officer (COO) of the BoE Group.

In 2002, when BoE merged with Nedcor, John was appointed as executive director of retail for Peoples Bank Limited, a division of the Nedcor Group, where he was responsible for overseeing the integration of the BoE retail businesses into Peoples Bank.

In 2003, John decided to be his own boss, which included consulting on an ad-hoc basis to various financial institutions. In January 2005 John was appointed as head of BoE Private Clients based in KZN. In April 2006, John was appointed to head up Virgin Money South Africa based in Johannesburg.
